Hey,
I run a medium-sized battle.net clan, and recently I've had a couple of my more useful members leave, including the co-leader, who I was planning on having as my successor. What can I do to stop people leaving in a mass exodus if they start thinking that since he left, the clan is dying?

Thanks, Jack.

What advice would you give for recruiting in a rather small community? In a game like Spark the community is not bigger than 300 people where most (if not all) of the serious players are in other clans.

Well Doom, I'd be willing to give you some advice on the matter and all that. Sufficed to say trying to kill eachother's clans won't exactly help :P

Either way, feel free to mail me about it and I'll get back to you.

Excellent work, a must-read for clan leaders and clan-leaders-to-be alike.
As someone who's led a medium size gaming clan for almost two years (wow, time does fly), I can safely say each of these points are absolutely vital to the longevity of a clan.

A small addition; in my personal experience, good contacts are vital. Though my experience is limited to a relatively small and tight-knit game, I have found (especially at the beginning) that without good contacts, you won't get anywhere. You need them for your clan's popularity, for a site/forum ( which is absolutely vital these days; not knowing HTML like myself is no longer an excuse ;) ), and more. It is safe to say that, had I not had pretty good contacts, my clan wouldn't have lasted more than...what, a month?

Either way, as said, awesome article. Keep up the good work!

Hi. Let me start by saying your advice helps a great deal. It is good to hear that I am not the only one that messes up. I have a bit of an issue I need help with.

I play wolfenstein Enemy Territory online. That is where my clan is from. We are not that big but we have a rival. Their name is GDC. We cannot do much to fight them except Scrimming and playing on each others servers. However this may be, we hate eachother. We have some skilled members who can Hack their servers and forums but I was wondering how I as a clan leader fight them back. What could i do to help out and ultimatly force them to abandon their clan?
If you want to reach me you have my email and you can contact me on the forums or here. I want to bring that clan to their knees but I dont not know how.

Thank you for all you help and advice.

I am currently a leader of a two and a half year old FPS clan. We have had our peaks and lows, but over-all id consider it a success. I constantly read your site to ground my expectations.

That being said. What about Clan to Clan issues. I run a successful clan, but and outside clan is "Invading" and spreading alot of negativity and hostility. I usually approach the matter very diplomatic, but communication virtually doesnt exsist.

How would you deal with a negative outside force?
