About

During my time as an online gamer, I had experience running a number of large clans and guilds. Initially the clans I ran were quite small and nothing special, they were clans that just about anybody could put together. After a few years of experience however, I began to get a feel for what worked and what didn’t when it came to clan management. I began to learn how to manage my clan members so that they’d want to stay in my clan, devote their free time to seeing it succeed, and train hard to be high ranking, active and quality members.

I saw time and time again how so many clans failed due to simple mistakes by the clan leaders. The number one lesson I learned was this - If you can’t manage your members and keep their morale high, then your clan is doomed for failure.

By changing the way I ran clans to focus on my members as opposed to trying to obtain the highest overall clan rank, or go on the most epic of raids, I found myself being able to retain members who would go out of their way for the clan, simply because they felt privileged to be a part of the clan.

My Experience

My experience in clan leadership involved creating and running the second to third highest ranking clan on Planetside within the Markov server (The Red Guard), a highly organised and lucrative Star Wars Galaxies farming guild, a PvP guild within Guild Wars that ranked within the top 12 on the PvP ladder, a high ranking Lord of the Rings Online guild, the highest ranking guild within Fierce Harmony (ahh those were the days), just to name but a few.

Why I created This Blog

Since I retired from online gaming, I thought that I’d like to teach both new and seasoned clan leaders the strategies that I used in order to start up and run top ranking clans and guilds. I thought I’d like to share all the experiences, mistakes and hardships that I endured and learned from as a result of managing thousands of clan members. The best way I thought I could do this would be through a website, this blog - The Clan Leader.

I hope to teach you the mindset that you must adopt if you plan on running a successful clan. For those who already run high ranking clans, I hope that I’m able to offer you some additional information and experience that you can take onboard to help you with your clan management.

My aim with this blog is to provide as much quality content as possible so that absolutely anybody can create a new clan from scratch, and turn it into something successful. I was never the best player in a game, nor was I a well connected one, but the leadership skills I gained through experience enabled me to run top ranking clans time and time again, leadership skills which the best players, and the most well connected ones, all too often seemed to lack.

Running a successful clan can not only be fun, it can also help you develop your leadership skills as an individual. By applying the principles I teach, I have no doubt that you will experience the pleasures involved in running a large, successful clan. Know that with hardwork and dedication, you can achieve anything.
